The junior syllabus was devised to meet the needs of young ballet dancers by teaching the recognised traditional technique of Classical ballet in carefully graded and interesting exercises. The syllabus to Grade 6 was originally choreographed by BAL examiner Hilda Easton, with further revisions by BAL technical advisors and examiners.

 

 

 

Junior grades are:

  • Beginners (an introductory assessment for 5 & 6 year olds)
  • Pre-Primary
  • Primary
  • Grades One – Five
  • Petite Solo (optional)

The senior grades (except Grade 6) were devised by Robert Fisher, former Ballet Master, Dutch National Ballet, with recent revisions by BAL Technical Advisors and Examiners.

Senior grades are:

  • Grade 6 (does not include pointe exercises)
  • Preparatory Elementary Foundation (no pointe required)
  • Preparatory Elementary
  • Elementary Foundation (no pointe required)
  • Elementary
  • Intermediate
  • Advanced
  • Solo Seal

Teaching Certificate III can be taken from 16 years of age and after successfully completing Pre-Elementary standard.
