Membership

BAL Membership is renewable every 12 months, from the 1^st July each year.

Membership will commence on the date that BAL receives payment, until the end of that financial year

BAL Full Teacher Membership

Defined as: A teacher of BAL syllabus who has BAL approved teaching qualifications and is entering students for BAL exams.

Available to: Those who have successfully completed BAL Pre-Elementary standard in Ballet, or Elementary standard in all other genres, (or a similar standard in another recognised syllabus), or have been granted discretionary membership by the BAL Board.

Full Teacher Members can:

Teach the BAL syllabus in the genre for which membership has been approved.
Purchase subscriptions to all teaching aids pertaining to the BAL syllabi including notations, music, and DVDs.
Enter students for BAL examinations, and become eligible for BAL Honour Point Awards
Attend Summer School and workshops.
Attend BAL’s annual AGM in November, vote on member issues, participate in Board initiatives and sub-committees.
Receive regular Newsletters and mail outs.
Receive prompt assistance on syllabus queries from the BAL Technical Committee representatives.
Receive a BAL Membership Certificate
Receive a discount on DANCEAID, an accredited first aid course designed for the dance industry
Receive additional BAL member bonuses on any dance tours taken with DANCE WITH GO TOURS
Enter eligible senior students in BAL Scholarship Awards
Display MBAL in all advertising

Full Teacher members are required to:

Attend Summer School at least every two (2) years
Hold either BAL Internal Cert III in Dance Teaching, or CUA40320 Cert IV in Dance Teaching & Management
Enter students for BAL examinations at least every two (2) years

COST as at Feb 2025: $145 (1 Genre) or $200 (2 Genres or more)

BAL Provisional Teacher Membership

Defined as: A teacher of BAL syllabus who can conduct classes unsupervised and is completing BAL approved qualifications, namely BAL Internal Cert III in Dance Teaching, or CUA40320 Certificate IV in Dance Teaching and Management.

Provisional Teacher Members can:

Teach the BAL syllabus in any genre for which membership has been approved
Purchase subscriptions to all teaching aids pertaining to the BAL syllabi including notations, music, and DVDs.
Enter students for BAL examinations, and become eligible for BAL Honour Points Awards
Attend Summer School and workshops.
Attend BAL’s annual AGM in November, vote on member issues, participate in Board initiatives and sub-committees.

Provisional members are required to:

Attend Summer School at least every two (2) years.
Commence training for either BAL Accredited TCIII or nationally recognised CUA40320 Certificate IV in Dance Teaching and Management, immediately following membership approval. Full Teacher status will be attained on completion of either of these two courses.
Enter students for BAL examinations at least every two (2) years (if principal teacher of studio)

COST as at Feb 2025: $145 (1 Genre) or $200 (2 Genres or more)

BAL Student Membership

Defined as: A BAL student who is interested in strengthening links to BAL but is not yet old enough to become a BAL Teaching Member.

Available to: Students who are 15 years and under, and who have successfully completed BAL Elementary standard in any genre (Pre-Elementary for Ballet).

Student Members can:

Attend Summer School in January each year and various workshops.
Receive a BAL membership certificate
Receive regular BAL Newsletters

COST as at Feb 2025: $40

BAL Associate Membership

Defined as: Non-teaching members who have an historical and on-going interest in BAL and wish to maintain links with the organisation.

Available to: Individuals and/or former BAL teachers who are not teaching BAL syllabi.

Associate Members can:

Receive a BAL membership certificate
Receive regular BAL Newsletters
Attend Summer Schools and workshops.
Attend BAL’s annual AGM in November and vote on member issues.

COST as at Feb 2025: $100

HIGHER LEVELS OF MEMBERSHIP

These are offered to BAL teachers of long-standing who have displayed loyalty to BAL, consistent excellence in examination results reflecting a strong commitment to the success of their students, and who have volunteered their services to the advancement of the BAL organisation.

These include Fellowships and Life Memberships.
